Dr. Efrain Martinez-Alvernia is originally from Bogotá, Colombia, where he earned his medical degree from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, affiliated with Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. He went on to complete his neurology residency at the University of Southern California and pursued fellowship training in Clinical Neurophysiology with an emphasis on neuromuscular disorders and epilepsy at The University of Texas at Austin.
While in Boston, Dr. Martinez was an active contributor to academic research and education. At Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, he was a frequent speaker and published multiple peer-reviewed articles, earning several awards for his contributions. He also collaborated with the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology (ASPO). During his time at Massachusetts General Hospital, he worked in the Neuroradiology Department, where he contributed to multiple research projects, resulting in abstract presentations and publications.
Dr. Martinez is also deeply committed to serving underserved populations. Alongside his parents and siblings, he co-founded a nonprofit organization in Colombia dedicated to providing healthcare for homeless individuals and those without access to insurance.
In August 2022, Dr. Martinez joined the Tallahassee Neurological Clinic – Department of Neurology. He is fluent in both Spanish and English. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family outdoors, including hiking, fishing, and traveling.
