MRI
Have we recommended that you or a family member have an MRI? At Tallahassee Neurological Clinic, we have our own Open MRI machine which is very beneficial for those of you who may be concerned about claustrophobia during the test.
Open Magnetic Resonance Imaging, better known as Open MRI, is medical technology that produces high quality pictures of the human body. This diagnostic imaging procedure creates images without the use of x-rays (ionized radiation). Instead, detailed pictures are produced using a powerful magnet, radio waves and a computer. The Radiologists of Radiology Associates of Tallahassee interpret these images for TNC. The images are immediately available to TNC physicians through an online connection. Treating physicians, neurologists, neurosurgeons, pain management specialists and others use the information obtained from MRI images to accurately diagnose medical conditions. For many medical conditions, obtaining MRI images is considered the gold standard or the very best method for identifying problems through the diagnostic workup.
At the TNC Open MRI Center (located within the Pain Management Office) patients can relax while having their MRI done by listening to music through specially manufactured headphones. There is also a window within the MRI suite that provides natural light and enhances the sense of openness. This environment is much different from the traditional “closed” MRI magnet room where the MRI patient table is positioned within a narrow, enclosed space. The TNC Open MRI is able to accommodate patients whose size and girth disqualify them from being candidates for closed MRI studies.
